Open Data

As part of Ontario’s Open Government Initiative [New Window], which aims to create a more open and transparent government for the people of Ontario, the Financial Services Tribunal (FST) is listing data sets online through its open data catalogue.

Over time, the FST will make the data that it creates, collects and manages available for public use through the listings in the catalogue, unless it cannot do so for legal, privacy, security or commercially-sensitive reasons.

The process to open data

A number of steps are required before information can be converted into open and machine-readable data.

This includes:

  • identifying and prioritizing data for release
  • assessing data quality
  • reviewing data for accuracy, legal, privacy and security implications
  • making data compliant with accessibility and French language requirements for open data, and
  • ensuring specific technical requirements are met.

This process can take some time, depending on the volume and complexity of the information that is being converted.
